A Louisiana man died in a two-vehicle wreck involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger car that occurred on State Highway 84 about five miles west of Joaquin Friday evening.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Justice of the Peace Margie Anderson pronounced Kenneth Wheeler, 61, of Sibley, dead at the scene of the wreck at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

The preliminary crash investigation shows that a 2014 Kia Soul driven by Baylee Brookshire, 17, of Logansport, La., was stopped on SH 84 waiting to turn left onto a private driveway when it was struck from behind by a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer rig driven by Wheeler.

After the initial collision, the 18-wheeler went off the road to the right, over-corrected back to the left, and rolled over, the press release stated.

Brookshire was taken to a hospital in Louisiana by private vehicle as a safety precaution.
