DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) -

A 23-year-old Trinity area man has died as a result of injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle wreck that occurred on U.S. Highway 59 in Diboll Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. Brandan Lovell with the Diboll Police Department said Michael Follis died at a Lufkin hospital Sunday. Lovell said medical personnel were never able to airlift Follis to another hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Two other people from the Trinity area - Dylan Underhill, 20, and Gary Underhill, 45 - were both airlifted to a hospital in Tyler after the wreck. A 5-year-old child was airlifted to a Houston hospital for treatment of his or her injuries, and Lovell cited Diboll PD’s policy about not releasing the names of children to news media.

Lovell said Monday that the investigation of the wreck is still ongoing.

Based on their preliminary investigation, he said that vehicle hydroplaned on Highway 59 at about 12:19 p.m. Sunday and struck a Chevrolet Aveo driven by Dylan Underhill. The Aveo then went into an oncoming lane of traffic and struck a Mercedes, Lovell said.

Lovell didn’t have the name of the Mercedes’ driver and said that the person was taken to a Lufkin hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway 59 was shut down until the wreck scene was cleared Sunday.
