JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

After Tyler County firefighters put out a house fire Sunday afternoon, they discovered a person’s body in the rubble of the home, which was located in the Dam B area of the county.

According to Chief Bill Crozier with the Dam B Volunteer Fire Department said they were dispatched out to the fire at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. He said the firefighters at the scene never had any idea that someone was in the house, which was located on County Road 4180.

Crozier said they didn’t discover the person’s body until they had gotten the fire “knocked down.”

The Dam B said the person's body has been sent off to Beaumont to be identified and for an autopsy. Justice of the Peace Jim Moore said the man's name will be listed as "unknown" on the inquest form until a positive ID is made on the body.

The Spurger and Woodville volunteer departments also assisted in battling the blaze.
