Tyler County firefighters found a person's body after putting out a fire on County Road 4180 Sunday evening.
Sheriff Bryan Weatherford said they would not release information on how they determined the death was a homicide or how they were able to name Chance as the suspect.
Officials said autopsy results are pending; however, they will start collecting DNA to use as evidence.
So far, officials have concluded Chance is their key suspect with a possibility of more suspects as the investigation continues.
A neighbor who witnessed the fire called 911.
"Well, I was talking to 911, and on the other side of the trailer, big ball of fire came out. I mean a big ball of fire," said Norman Campbell, who lives across the street from the house.
Chance has a prior criminal history and was last released from prison in 2012.
