HOUSTON, TX (KTRE) - The Houston Texans have traded the quarterback they signed to a $72-million contract last year. Brock Osweiler has been traded to the Cleveland Browns.
According to ESPN, the Texans also traded their 2018 second-round pick and then this year's sixth-round pick to Cleveland for their fourth-round pick. The Browns will take on Osweiler's $16 million dollar salary.
The trade comes after Osweiler underperformed in his first year with Houston, throwing more interceptions with 16, then touchdowns with 15. Osweiler threw for 2,957 yards and finished 22nd in quarterback rating in the league. He lead an offense that ranked 29th in the league.
Texans finished as the AFC South champions with a 9-7 record, but Osweiler's starting position was stripped away at one point in the season for backup Tom Savage.
Cleveland finished with the worst record in the league, only winning one game last season. The Browns released their former starting quarterback, Jacksonville native, Josh McCown.
