NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Stephen F. Austin State University's Beef Center is playing a role in helping Texas Panhandle ranchers who lost pastures from catastrophic fires.
On Saturday, at least 64 round bales of coastal hay will be picked up and hauled to a livestock supply point in Hemphill County.
SFA Beef Center Manager Chris Koffskey made arrangements for the donation. He says a mild winter in East Texas led to an abundant supply of hay grown at the SFA Beef Center. The rancher says sharing is just the right thing to do.
"Anything we can do to help fellow farmers and ranchers," Koffskey said. "It's hard enough to make money as it is in agriculture. This is a devastating blow to a lot of people. They've lost their entire livelihood in some instances, so anything we can do to get them back on their feet, we want to do."
