Trying to reach the women's NCAA Tournament for the first time in over a decade, Stephen F. Austin faced a tall task on Sunday afternoon in the Southland Conference tournament title game. The Ladyjacks took on defending champion Central Arkansas, who also defeated them twice during the regular season.
The old saying in sports of, it's hard to beat a team three times in one season, proved not to be true in Katy, Texas. The Sugar Bears took an 18 point lead into the fourth quarter and never let SFA make a run. Ladyjacks star Taylor Ross fouled out in the final frame, and Central Arkansas played suffocating defense the entire game.
SFA, hoping to get to the Big Dance for the first time since 2006, entered the fourth quarter with only 24 points and ended with 35. It was by far their lowest output of the season, and the Sugar Bears won 60-35. SFA ends the season at 25-7 overall.
