TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas group celebrating International Day of Happiness is a step above glad that area residents joined them in celebration.

"I was hoping for a nice sunny day," event organizer Kitty Springer said. "But I forgot to ask my dear Lord to tone it down on the wind a little bit."

The wind was passing through the square, blowing fliers and pamphlets to the east. The group was in downtown Tyler all day Monday, helping passersby pin hand written notes to their happiness wall. For every note filled out, the group will donate $1 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

On the notes are words and sentences that describe what exactly makes people happy, and how they plan to share happiness.

But a new study released today tried to burst this peace and tie-dye bubble. The United Nations released numbers that evidence happiness has been declining in the United States since 2007. Now, The USA is ranked 14th on the UN's list of 155 countries. But that's not stopping the Gregories.

Kay Gregory is with her grandson, Mack. They're doing yoga and moving around the square, and despite some shallow embarrassment, Mack is a good sport.

"On my note, I said I'm happy about being ten years old," he said. He was happy about that 10th birthday party, too.

As for the wind, it caused a change in set up.

"We had our wall in a different position, and it blew down!" Kitty Springer said.

Early Monday, the broad side of the wall was in the wind. It toppled over, and spilled the notes. They moved it, to keep it out of the wind. Which kept the wall from falling over, but not the notes from blowing off.

"We've been scurrying around after the notes," Springer said.

A representative from Tyler City Hall came to the square at noon, proclaiming the day "International Day of Happiness" for Tyler.
