TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

An 18-year-old Grapeland man died as a result of injuries he suffered in a one-vehicle rollover wreck that occurred on U.S. Highway 287 in Trinity County on March 17.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of the 1995 Ford Ranger involved in the wreck has been identified as Nicholas Collins.

DPS troopers responded to a 911 call about the crash at about 9:30 p.m. on March 17. The crash occurred just north of State Highway 94.

The preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the wreck showed that Collins was traveling north on US 287 when he veered off the road to the right for an unknown reason. When Collins tried to get his pickup back on the road, he over-corrected, causing the Ford Ranger to roll over several times before coming to rest, the press release stated.

Collins was airlifted by medical helicopter to the Conroe Regional Hospital. Collins, who was not wearing a seatbelt when the wreck occurred, did not survive his injuries.
