NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Press Release)– Stephen F. Austin's softball team starts their four-game home stand with a midweek match up against Louisiana Monroe on Wednesday evening. SFA and ULM will play a single-game at 6:00 p.m. before SFA hosts their second conference opponent, Lamar, for the weekend series.
The 2016 ULM Mardi Gras Classic was the last time that these two teams met in the field. In that game, eight different Ladyjacks notched hits, and five different players drive in runs in a 7-4 victory over the Warhawks. Senior Brittany Lewis drove in a pair behind a two-run triple in the third inning, and junior Taylor Fraccastoro drew a bases loaded walk to cap the scoring.
Last Time Out: SFA went 2-1 against the previously undefeated Nicholls last weekend in Nacogdoches. The Ladyjackes edged out in a 1-0 verdict with a late RBI single from sophomore Lauren Becker. Game Two started quickly for the Ladyjacks after junior Amber Landry slammed a three-run homer over the left fence in the first inning, putting SFA up 3-0. Nicholls would cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth and then turned to small ball in the seventh, scoring three runs on two hits. Fraccastoro responded with a solo homer in the seventh, but SFA would fall, 5-4. Game three was much like the first with both teams battling through six innings knotted at 0-0, until Nicholls took advantage of an overthrown ball to take the game 2-0.
Scouting ULM: The Warhawks went 2-1 with their conference series against Georgia Southern. After winning game on Friday, ULM split the Saturday double-header, 4-3 and 1-0. Georgia Southern jumped out early to a 4-1 lead after five and a half innings and even after a two-run sixth inning for the Warhawks, ULM was unable to take the lead. In Game Two, the two teams stayed at a 0-0 stalemate until the Warhawks secured a walkoff win from a fielding error in the bottom of the ninth.
