NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday in connection to allegations that he hit and injured his 6-month-old while he was in the process of assaulting his sister.
The man is also accused of beating up the child's mother, according to the arrest affidavit.
Deonte Montreal Reed, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a third-degree felony assault causing bodily injury to two or more family members in 12 months charge, a state-jail felony injury to a child charge, and a Class A misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury to a family member charge.
Collectively, his bail amount has been set at $32,500.
According to the arrest affidavit, a Nacogdoches Police Department responded to a home in the 300 block of Lake Street Tuesday night on a disturbance call. When he got to the scene, he found Reed holding his 6-month-old child.
The NPD officer noticed that the child had a large bruise and swelling on his or her head, the affidavit stated. Reed allegedly had a bloody knuckle on his left thumb as well.
Reed's version of what happened differed from that of two victims that were at the scene, the affidavit stated. The child's mother had a black eye along with a knot on the right side of her head, and she told the NPD officer that Reed punched her, pulled her hair, and knocked her down, which caused her to hit her head, the affidavit stated.
The child's mother stated that the black eye occurred on March 16, the affidavit stated.
According to the affidavit, the other victim at the scene had an eye that was swollen shut. The other victim, who is Reed's sister, said that Reed punched her in the face multiple times and struck the child while he was in the process of hitting her, the affidavit stated.
A stroller was knocked over, and damage was done to the front door during the incident, the affidavit stated.
While Reed was being taken into custody for the three charges, he allegedly admitted to hitting his sister.
