HARDIN COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested a 56-year-old Buna man for intoxicated manslaughter Tuesday after a fatal one-vehicle wreck that occurred on FM 421 in Hardin County.

Kennon Floyd Perry was arrested and charged with second-degree felony intoxicated manslaughter.

According to a press release, DPS troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash in Hardin County at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The wreck occurred about four miles west of Lumberton.

Perry was driving a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on FM 421 when he struck a deer in the roadway, the press release stated. The initial crash investigation indicates that Perry was traveling at an unsafe speed when he entered a curve and lost control.

"As the motorcycle traveled off the roadway, the passenger was thrown from the vehicle," said Trooper Stephanie Dark, a DPS spokeswoman. "Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets."

Justice of the Peace Walker pronounced Tiare Susan Sorensen, 56, of Jasper dead at the scene of the crash., the press release stated. Sorensen was a passenger on Perry's motorcycle.

Although Perry sustained minor injuries in the wreck, he refused medical treatment at the scene.

After the on-scene crash investigation and the interview with Perry, the DPS troopers concluded that Perry had been operating his motorcycle while he was intoxicated.  He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Hardin County Jail without incident.
