It was a packed house at Central High School on Thursday to see one of their Lady Bulldogs sign to play collegiate softball. Makenna Bell is headed to Kilgore College this upcoming fall.
Bell has shined in her time at Central. As a four-year starter, she’s a two-time first-team all-district selection and was even named all-state. However, being named the Defensive Player of the Year for Angelina County is what she believes will be helpful at the next level.
“I'm really excited to be an asset to my team. I want to work on my defense and be that strong defensive player, as well as offensively. But I think I'm going to be a bigger asset to them defensively,” said Bell.
“She's aggressive. She leaves it all out on the field. If she strikes out, she's going down swinging,” said Central head coach Shane Tobias. “She wants to play the game. She loves the game. I think with her playing two sports in high school and with her concentrating on softball now, they're really getting a quality softball player. She's only going to get better.”
Bell said she plans on studying elementary education in college. She hopes to transfer to a four-year university to continue her softball career after her time at Kilgore.
