NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A 38-year-old Nacogdoches woman accepted a plea bargain deal of 10 years of deferred adjudication Friday morning in connection to a consensual relationship she had with an underage boy back in November of 2000.
Nacogdoches County District Attorney Nicole LoStracco said that Penny Rene Bowles pleaded guilty to sexual assault, and she will be required to comply with conditions similar to what someone would get with a probation sentence. Bowles will also be required to register as a sex offender with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
"The offense was based on a consensual relationship between Ms. Bowles and the victim," LoStracco said. "The relationship was criminalized due to the age of the victim who was in his late teens, not violence or lack of consent. The relationship took place over 15 years ago and was only recently discovered."
LoStracco said that information will be available to the general public on the DPS website.
In addition, Bowles will have to pay a $1,000 fine, and she will be required to do 300 hours of community service, LoStracco said.
According to a previous East Texas News story, Bowles was booked into the Nacogdoches County jail on a second-degree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charge on March 3, 2015. She was released from the jail later that day after she posted a bail amount of $25,000.
A Nacogdoches County grand jury indicted Bowles on the charge in January of 2015.
