LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin ISD UIL accounting team has no plans in stopping their dominance when it comes to district competition.
This past weekend, the team won their 18th consecutive district championship. They are now back in the classroom and getting ready for the regional championship in two weeks in Waco.
"I think there is a common denominator, and it is Mrs. Holcomb," senior Ana Willke said. "She works hard. She works harder than us, that is for sure."
Willke is in her third and final year on the team. One of her teams finished second at state, and she is hoping to bring home the gold this year. She is 18, so there was a little pressure put on her with this district run.
"It was definitely a legend that I had to live up to, a legacy," Willke said. "It made me excited and nervous, but it is a blessing to be a part of something that has happened for so long."
The team is made up of Captain Ana Willke, Jesus Alvarado, Kyle Wynn, and Peyton Stephens.
