The Lufkin swim program has a lot to celebrate Wednesday morning when Seth Petersen and Matteson Wesoloski both signed to swim at Southwestern University.
The dynamic duo have been standouts for the swim program at Lufkin as both were named team's MVP their junior year. They've both made several trips to regionals, with Petersen going to state his sophomore year.
Now that the two have been swimming together for years, their families say they've come together as one big swim family.
“It makes me feel more comfortable just for the fact that he's my best friend. I couldn't ask for anything more than to continue swimming with my best friend,” said Wesoloski. “I think that's really awesome and I'm excited about that too.”
“I'll know someone whenever I get there so I'll actually have a friend to talk to. Of course, I'll meet new people but it will be much easier,” said Petersen.
“I think that they're really going to flourish. I think that they're going to see a lot of dropped times. I think that they're going to see some of their best swimming,” said Lufkin swim coach Camilo Orellana.
Petersen wants major in computer science while Wesoloski will study studio art and cognitive studies.
