Police: Employee stole more than $3K from Lufkin Whataburger

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A 40-year-old Diboll woman has been arrested on accusations that she stole money from a Lufkin Whataburger.

Shalathia Vinson was arrested for theft between $2,500 and $30,000. According to online records, she was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Friday and released on Sunday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Lufkin police were called out to the fast food restaurant on Brentwood back in July of last year in reference to the theft. The affidavit stated that the officer spoke with the district manager who stated that one of the deposits recently had not been made to the bank. the manager told police that the employee responsible for the bank drop on the day of July 3 was Vinson who was an assistant manager.

The affidavit stated that the manager believed the amount that was supposed to be dropped with the deposit was $3,032.00.

Police said that when management contacted Vinson she could not give a reason for the missing deposit but then she later sent a text message to the manager stating: "Hey ms [redacted], i have a serious problem i take full responsibility of it i have have been robbed of the deposit from a family member and u can't afford to lose my job im in court right now and i will call you as soon as im done."

Police took a written statement from the district manager and got copies of security footage that they believe show Vinson filling out the deposit on the day in question.
