LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin ISD's UIL accounting team is hoping to keep their winning streak alive in the wake of winning their 18th straight district title and winning at a regional meet in Waco last weekend.
The members of the UIL accounting team are now preparing for the state meet in Austin, which be held on April 22.
'I think there is a common denominator, and it is Mrs. Holcomb," Ana Willke, a Lufkin High School senior, said in a previous East Texas News story. "She works hard. She works harder than us, that is for sure."
Willke said one of the UIL accounting teams she has competed with finished second at state, and she is hoping to bring home the gold this year. She also said that since she is 18, she and her teammates felt a little pressure when they competed at the district level.
"It was definitely a legend that I had to live up to, a legacy,' Willke said. "It made me excited and nervous, but it is a blessing to be a part of something that has happened for so long."
The Lufkin ISD UIL accounting team is made of Captain Ana Willke, Jesus Alvarado, Kyle Wynn, and Peyton Stephens.
