LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Police are working multiple wrecks just after the lunch hour on Tuesday.

Crews are working to clear up two wrecks that occurred on Loop 287's northbound side and Paul Avenue and at the loop and Moffett Road. A passenger car swerved off the road at Paul Avenue and the loop while an 18-wheeler was involved in a wreck by the loop and Moffett.

Two additional wrecks occurred at the loop and Atkinson Drive. One wreck was in the northbound lanes and one was in the southbound lanes. Officials report multiple-car wreck where one caught on fire on the northbound side of the loop while across the freeway, in the southbound lanes, an SUV grazed another vehicle on the side.

In addition, another wreck occurred at the 1800 block of East Denman Avenue at the loop. The wreck involved an SUV and a pickup truck. The person from the SUV was sent to a local hospital.

Jessica Pebsworth, with the Lufkin Police Department, said all of the wrecks were weather-related and urged drivers to use caution on the roads.

As of Tuesday evening, police are reporting several people were transported to area hospitals, but none of them had life-threatening injuries.
