Lufkin special teams football coach Clay Berry has been named the new head baseball coach for Lufkin High School.
Berry has experience working as a baseball coach prior to being employed by Lufkin I.S.D. as a special teams football coach.
Berry expressed interested at the beginning of the baseball coach search to Athletic Director John Outlaw, but Outlaw did not want to loose Berry’s talents as a football coach. After completing the interview process, Outlaw stated it was evident that Berry was the best person to fill the position.
Outlaw says Clay Berry will bring a different style in coaching baseball for Lufkin, and will be an aggressive coach.
Berry is a graduate of Henderson State University where he played baseball for four years. His previous experience also includes coaching baseball at Sherman High School, and as head baseball coach in Pottsboro and Queen City, Texas.
Berry has a history of leading teams to district championships and regional finals.
