Diboll head coach Andre Emmons makes KTRE Pineywoods Showdown debut

It's that time again for KTRE's 9th Annual Pineywoods Showdown. It's where KTRE takes the best senior high school basketball players from Angelina and Nacogdoches County to compete in an all-star game all for charity.

The Angelina County girls team will be playing for the Diboll Housing Authority Summer Enrichment Program.

They'll coached by Diboll head coach Andre Emmons, who is making his Pineywoods Showdown debut. Emmons said he couldn't be more excited by his roster going in.

"I saw the roster and was like, ''wow.' This amount of talent on one team is pretty fun for my first all-star game coaching. I want to see how that works and sit back and watch the talent myself," said Emmons.

"You hit that last ball game of your senior season and you think you're done. Then you get the opportunity to play one more game and to represent your county too. It's a privilege," said Huntington basketball player Grace Martin.

The game will be held Thursday, April 20, at Lufkin Panther Gym. The girls' game starts at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow after. Admission is $5 at the door. Children under the age of 5 can get in free.

The eighth year saw the Angelina County girls win 66-52 and the Angelina County boys win 69-57.

As always, every team has chosen a charity to play for. The winning teams' charities take the profits from the gate.
