Georgia Grants Clemency For Robert Coney

Clemency has been granted for an elderly man wrongfully convicted for a Lufkin robbery more than 40 years ago.

The state of Georgia commuted Coney's sentence to time served. Coney spent time in prison for robbing a Lufkin grocery store. That conviction was later overturned, but Coney's attorneys claim he was kept in prison so long because his paperwork got lost.

Dallas authorities re-arrested Coney in November, accusing him of escaping from a Georgia prison back in 1976.

Representatives for Coney say just like in Angelina County, those charges were previously set aside.

Coney's lawsuit against Angelina County is still pending.
