Trinity man arrested in connection to motorcycle death

TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Trinity man who is accused in the intoxicated-driving death of a woman in December of 2015 is now in jail.

Jail records show Joe Lynn Brinson, 53, was booked in the Trinity police jail Wednesday after being transported from the Galveston County Jail on charges of second-degree intoxicated manslaughter and third-degree unlawful carrying of a weapon.

According to a previous report, Brinson was driving a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle on December 20 northeast on State Highway 94 when the motorcycle left the road on the right, Brinson lost control and the motorcycle fell to the side, throwing both Brinson and Kerri Jopplin Barnett, 58, of Trinity, off the motorcycle.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety report, both people were wearing helmets that did not cover their faces. Brinson and Barnett both suffered severe head and facial injuries, and they were taken to Houston Memorial Hospital.

Barnett, who was also from Trinity, died at the hospital at 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 22. Brinson was released from the hospital that same day.
