LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - This week's Best Furry Friend has a gentle spirit but also is a ball of energy.
"Her name is Dariya, and she is a 2-year-old Lab," said Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter Director Aaron Ramsey. "She has been at the shelter since early March, so she has been here awhile. As you can see she loves belly rubs. She is just your typical Lab."
Dariya was a stray but at one point had a family.
"She was brought in as a stray," Ramsey said. "She came in with a collar on, so she belonged to somebody, but we have not been able to find her owner."
Now they are hoping she gets another chance at being someone's companion.
She is well trained and could even come in handy as a hunting or working dog.
Black Labrador retrievers average about 13 years of life, so this young beauty has plenty of time left to make someone's life special.
"She's out of that puppy stage but still has a lot of energy," Ramsey said. "We always recommend to come in and meet Dariya. We have a park here where you can come and take her out and bring your kids out and other pets to see how she does."
If you're interested in adopting Dariya, the process is quite simple. Just contact the Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter in Lufkin located on Hill Street. They're open Monday to Saturday but closed on Sundays
