NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A dedication ceremony celebrating the naming of the Robert and Kathy Lehmann Chemistry Building took place Tuesday on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The name change was approved back in January.

Tuesday's ceremony personally thanked the ophthalmologist and his wife for the expertise, and financial resources they have dedicated to SFA.

The Lehmanns have contributed to SFA student scholarships and to the advancement of university programs, including fine arts, modern languages, hospitality, athletics, nursing, the College of Sciences and Mathematics, and the Women in STEM initiative.

"The chemistry building and its architecture just fits us very well,” said Robert Lehmann. “Kathy and I both really want to support SFA because SFA has meant the world to East Texas, to not just this community, but probably to the rest of the world."

The Robert and Kathy Lehmann Chemistry Building was built in 1938. In 2010, it received extensive renovations and remodeling.
