LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It is still four weeks until graduation but the Class of 2017 were able to put on their caps and gowns for a very special occasion.

The students spent their morning visiting the different elementary and primary campuses around the district. The students walked the halls and gave high fives to the younger students that will one day be in their shoes.

"I remember thinking when I was younger that, 'Oh i can't wait until I get to high school, I can't wait to graduate,'' Senior Haley Shurley said. "Now that it is here I am just like, 'No! i want to go back.' It is really great to see how excited they are and to be able to influence them."

The students also used the moment as a way to motivate them to finish the year strong.

"Being able to see their smiling faces and how excited they are it is always so inspirational," Shurley said. "It is always they little bit of push that we need just to get through these last few weeks. Just to be able to see the kids and see the smiles and the type of influence we have on them, it's always great."

The Class of 2017 will officially walk the stage and move on to their next goal on May 26.
