TYLER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A man has pleaded guilty in a Tyler County court to stabbing and killing his sister in January of 2016.
Sheriff Bryan Weatherford said Ronald Moore, 25, of Woodville, pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder and accepted a 55-year prison sentence.
Weatherford said an autopsy revealed Jessica Berry, 20, also of Woodville, had been stabbed more than 50 times.
Deputies arrested Moore on Jan. 18, 2016, after he had abandoned a vehicle on U.S. Highway 69 five miles south of Woodville.
The arrest came after deputies responded to County Road 4005, just east of Woodville, after learning a woman had been killed at a home. At the home, deputies found blood throughout the home. Family members told deputies Moore had left in a Jeep and deputies issued a state-wide alert.
Deputies later found Berry's body under her wood-frame home.
After the Jeep was found, deputies found Moore walking along US 69 south of Warren and arrested him.
Weatherford said Moore never revealed a motive to investigators.
