Man Accused Of Beating Teammate Heads To Court

A former Lufkin High School student accused of beating a fellow student unconscious last year will learn his punishment in a couple days.

A Lufkin judge will sentence Javier Ortega Thursday morning.

Ortega pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault. Authorities say he attacked 17-year-old Gerardo Acevedo in the locker room at Lufkin High School before soccer practice.

Acevedo recovered after several days in intensive care. Ortega faces up to 20 years in prison.
