JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

In the wake of the strong storm system that blew through East Texas Wednesday morning and caused flash flooding and wind damage to his county, Jasper County Judge Mark Allen has issued a local state of disaster declaration.

Allen said that there was widespread flash flooding between Kirbyville and Evadale. He said the flash flooding also affected numerous businesses between U.S. Highway 96 and State Highway 62. A Catholic church in Buna was also flooded, Allen said.

Allen said even though the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Jasper County Wednesday morning, they don't think the had a tornado actually touch down on the ground inside the county. Some trees were blown down along Highway 96, but Allen said, to his knowledge, no homes were damaged by the winds.

At about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jasper experienced a city-wide power outage. An official at Jasper City Hall said that it is an Entergy problem, and hey are waiting for them to fix it. No timetable was given.

In addition, Allen said there several areas out in the county that are without power at the moment as well.
