LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police confirmed Friday afternoon that one person has died following a morning wreck in Lufkin.
Two people were rushed to the hospital when a car went off the road in the 1700 block of Gobbler's Knob in Lufkin and struck a power pole around 11:15 a.m.
Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department said a witnesses told police they saw a white 2002 Acura that was driving "erratically" as it headed into Lufkin on Gobbler's Knob. After it crossed the outbound traffic lane, it went into a ditch and hit a power line pole.
A female from the car was rushed by ambulance to a Lufkin hospital. Pebsworth said she is in critical condition. Emergency personnel brought in a medical helicopter to airlift the male from the car for treatment. Pebsworth said the second victim was so unstable, that the helicopter was called off, and the person was taken by ambulance to a Lufkin hospital where he later died. The crash remains under investigation.
