LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina Arts Alliance announced their 2017-28 schedule Friday that includes a Texas Music icon and a Tony Award winning performance.
This will be the 17th annual season for the alliance that strives to keep the arts relevant in the Pineywoods.
"The season line-up represents the best artists and performances in several genres," a press release stated. "Starting in August and running through April patrons will enjoy an iconic country and western superstar, two award-winning Broadway shows, the top jazz trumpeter in the world, an astonishing Cirque holiday show, and more!"
The season kicks off with a special event featuring Lyle Lovett. The show will be on August 23 starting at 7:30 p.m.. A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums over three decades. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of Americana, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers.
Whether touring as a duo' or with his acoustic group, or the large band, Lovett's live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend's deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music's most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association's inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was named Texas State Musician. His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any living artist working today.
The rest of the season is as follows:

Diavolo: L.O.S.T., Sunday March 18, 2018 - 7:30 p.m.: DIAVOLO Architecture in Motion® performs a distinct style of Architecture in Motion that uses abstract and recognized structures to explore the relationship between the danger of our environment and the fragility of the human body. DIAVOLO is a fusion of many different movement vocabularies such as everyday movement, ballet, contemporary, acrobatics, gymnastics, martial arts, and hip-hop. What we do on stage is like a live abstract painting. There is no narrative, but strong themes pervade the work such as human struggle, fear, danger, survival, chaos, order, deconstruction, reconstruction, destiny, destination, faith, and love. Throughout the course of our lives, we lose ourselves; mentally, physically and emotionally. When we experience this loss, though temporary, we also experience our capacity to recognize and rise to the challenge of adapting and reshaping who we are in every moment. The constant teetering balance between vulnerability and control is the most natural process of the human experience and is the inspirational center for the L.O.S.T. An exploration of what both divides and unites, this series is an abstract study of our transient reality as we traverse through our daily lives and our daily work.
