LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in which a car went off the road in the 1700 block of Gobbler's Knob and slammed into a power pole claimed the life of a 27-year-old Lufkin man.
Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department, said that the person who died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash has been identified JaClayton Jamar Morris, of Lufkin. Morris was the passenger in the car involved in the wreck.
Pebsworth said that the driver of the white 2002 Acura that was involved in the crash was identified as Virginia Annette Daniels, 55, of Lufkin.
The investigation into the wreck is still ongoing, Pebsworth said.
The wreck occurred at about 11:15 a.m. On Friday, Pebsworth said that a witness told police they saw the Acura driving "erratically" as it headed into Lufkin on Gobbler's Knob. After it crossed the outbound traffic lane, it went into a ditch and hit a power line pole.
Pebsworth said Friday that Daniels is in critical condition. Emergency personnel brought in a medical helicopter to to airlift Morris to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. However, he was so unstable that the helicopter was called off, and Morris was taken by ambulance to a Lufkin hospital. where he later died.
