NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A log truck spill shut down two major highways in Nacogdoches County for a good part of Tuesday.
Rhonda Oaks, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of transportation, said that US Highway 59 and US Highway 259 have been re-opened to traffic in both directions.
Trooper John Riggins said George Cooper, 46, of Jefferson, was driving a 2007 Sterling 18-wheeler northbound too fast while exiting from US 59 to US 259. Riggins said Cooper made a sharp turn, causing the 18-wheeler to overturn.
Riggins said the straps on the trailer broke, sending a fourth of the logs onto US 59.
Cooper was pinned inside the truck and Nacogdoches firefighters had to cut him out.
As of 2:20 p.m., Cooper was listed in serious condition at a Nacgdoches hospital.
