A restaurant known as a favorite among Tyler residents as a spot to get a delicious Greek meal has closed its doors.
The restaurant was called What About Kabob and His Gyros originally, but locals called it "What About Kabobs" or just "Kabobs" for short. It was well-known in the initial years of its business for gyros and other fast and unique Greek specialties. It was a favorite among high school and college students, especially, but also among those of all ages who craved something besides a burger for lunch.
The business originally opened in 2011.
In recent years, the business changed hands and had struggled to stay open, according to former employees, who attributed some of the decline to the distance of the restaurant from the colleges and from the main Tyler restaurant district on south Broadway. Kabobs is located on the South southwest Loop 323 in Tyler.

Whatever the reason, many East Texans will be sad to see that this one-of-a-kind eatery has closed its doors. KLTV reached out to the restaurant for comment, but a number to the restaurant was disconnected.
On a Facebook post written by the restaurant management announcing the closure, many of the commenters asked hopefully if the restaurant might consider a change of location or even consider opening a food truck. Time will tell if the fans of Kabobs will get their wish.
