Kirbyville PD: 20-year-old used car to run over man who later died

Kirbyville, TX (KTRE) -

Jasper County law enforcement officers arrested a 20-year-old man on a manslaughter charge on May 19 in connection that he ran over a 23-year-old man, who later died as a result of his injuries.

Todd Ross Whitehead Jr., of Kirbyville, was booked into the Jasper County Jail on two felony charges - manslaughter and accident involving injury or death. He was released from the jail after he posted a collective bail amount of $100,000.

According to a press release from the Kirbyville Police Department, the incident occurred on May 10. Kirbyville PD officers responded to a 911 call stating that a man had been run over by a car on Trout Street.

When the officers got to the scene, they identified the victim as Jacob Hunter Gentry, of Kirbyville. First responders and EMS personnel treated Gentry at the scene and took him to the hospital.

“Witnesses on the scene identified the suspect in the vehicle and stated that the altercation began as an argument about a female,” the press release stated.

Gentry died as a result of his injuries at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston on May 17.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation and the arrest of Whitehead, the press release stated.
