Some East Texas college students literally got a hands-on history lesson Wednesday on medieval times.
Angelina College students got to show off their sword fighting expertise and learn how to properly trade medieval insults. They also got to use their sword-handling skills to slice a watermelon in half with one good hit.
The class and their teacher went all out for Medieval Day, even dressing up in period costume.
Howard Cox, liberal arts instructor, said, "We thought it would be really nice for them to get a sample of what medieval life was actually like, and one of the coolest things that you could do in the middle ages was fight with swords. I didn't want the students fighting, so I thought they could fight some melons."
