Know The Signs Of A Scam

There's yet another scam cheating hard-working Texans out of their money. This time, it involves a bogus sweepstakes prize.

In the past week, winning prize certificates have been mailed to Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming residents. The certificates are being mailed by a Las Vegas company. They inform the winner he or she has won more than three million dollars and all they have to do to get it is pay a small fee.

Lufkin police lieutenant Greg Denman, said, "When they say that you have to pay taxes or processing fees or things like that, that ought [to] put up a red flag itself."

It's also a good idea to check with the Better Business Bureau before doing business with any company you're not familiar with, and remember, you should never have to pay anything to win a prize, drawing, or sweepstakes. If the company insists, tell them to take it out of your cash award.
