There are alarming numbers about HIV infections. New reports show that more than 80% of women infected with HIV are African American.
But locally, prevention specialists don't believe the percentage is that high. African Americans make-up bout 54% of the total number of people infected with HIV in East Texas.
How the number of infections get reported has a big impact.
Beverly Chatman, the prevention services director for Health Horizons, said, "We are on a reporting system like Planned Parenthood and other agencies, so it would look like an increase, because that's where a lot of the minorities go for services."
