JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office arrested a 36-year-old woman in connection to allegations that two young children who lived in her home tested positive for meth.
Jewel R. Burch was booked in to the Jasper County jail on two second-degree endangering a child charges. Collectively, her bail amount has been set at $30,000.
According to the arrest affidavits East Texas news obtained on Monday, Child Protective Services contacted the Jasper County Sheriff's Office on July 19 about a case that had been opened on Burch. A CPS official told the JCSO investigator that Burch had been "very uncooperative" during the investigation and had refused to take ordered drug tests on several occasions, the affidavit stated.
Burch allegedly later took two drug tests and tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana the first time. She tested positive for meth as a result of the second drug test, the affidavit stated.
In addition, the two children, ages, 8 and 4, tested positive for meth as well, the affidavit stated.
On July 19, the JCSO investigator obtained arrest warrants for Burch and went to her house in the 3000 block of County Road 480 to serve the warrants, the affidavit stated. She was arrested at her home and taken to the county jail without any further incident.
More charges could be pending in the case in regard to the man that CPS investigated at the same time as Burch, according to one of the affidavits.
