Louisiana man dies in 18-wheeler-train collision near Leggett

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A 58-year-old Lena, Louisiana man died early Wednesday morning after his 18-wheeler was struck by a train on Loop 116 about 2.5 miles south of Leggett.

Capt. Ricky Childers with the Polk County Sheriff's Office said the truck driver has been identified as Wayne Edward Baldwin.

The wreck occurred at about 7:23 a.m. Wednesday morning on Loop 116 near the Stella Jones Mill, Childers said. He said Baldwin had just dropped off a load and left a a lumber yard when he crossed some railroad tracks and drove in front of a train.

The 18-wheeler was dragged down the tracks about two-tenths of a mile before the train came to a stop, Childers said.
