Increased Holiday Patrol Led To Lots Of Tickets

Nacogdoches police have the results of increased traffic patrols over the holiday weekend for last Memorial Day. The STEP program is designed to keep the roads and highways around East Texas safer during periods of heavy travel.

Nacogdoches police issued 258 traffic citations and logged 104 enforcement hours during the period. Seat belt compliance was up by 11% and speed compliance increased by 20%.

Highway troopers in Angelina County wrote more than 400 tickets for seatbelt violations and logged 260 hours. The next 'STEP enforcement' wave will happen during the Labor Day travel season.
