Nacogdoches PD: Man robbed 2 women at gunpoint in parking lot

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Two women were robbed at gunpoint as they were walking through the parking lot of an apartment complex on Pearl Street Tuesday night.

According to the Nacogdoches Police Department's daily activity report, the robbery occurred at The Lofts apartment apartment complex in the 1300 block of Pearl Street at about 8:42 p.m.

One of the victims, who asked to remain anonymous, said in a statement that she and another woman were exiting a stair well when a man wearing a bright red ball cap and baggy shorts approached them with a handgun. The victim said the suspect held a gun up and said, "Give me that purse."

"Caught off guard, we turned around and noticed the gun," the victim said. "He repeated, 'Give me that purse.' I handed him the purse, and we took off in the opposite direction."

At that point, the suspect allegedly took the victim's purse and ran towards a waiting vehicle, which was described as a "large SUV."

"A large SUV was waiting and already pulling away as he got into the vehicle," the victim said.

Sowell said the victims described the suspect as a black man in his early 20s with a slender build. The suspect was wearing a flat-billed cap and dark shorts or pants. He added that police don't have a good description of the vehicle the suspect got into after the robbery.

The case is still under investigation. If the suspect is caught, that person will be facing a first-degree aggravated robbery.

Sgt. Greg Sowell, a spokesman for the Nacogdoches Police Department, said authorities have not determined whether Tuesday's robbery is connected to a similar armed robbery that occurred on Cardinal Street late Monday night.

"We have not connected them in any way, but we cannot rule out the possibility they may be connected," Sowell said.
