LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Missouri man who was taken to the Angelina County Jail on an outstanding car theft charge was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after he admitted to hiding a container of methamphetamine in his rectum and trying to flush it down a jail toilet.

Richard Dale Bridges, Jr.  37, of Bassfield, Mississippi, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a second-degree possession of a controlled substance between 200 and 400 grams charge and a state-jail felony unauthorized use of a vehicle charge. No bail amounts have been set on the charges.

According to the Lufkin Police Department’s daily activity report, Bridges was arrested on an outstanding warrant after he was stopped in the 100 block of Shepherd Ave. at about 12 a.m. Thursday.

After Bridges was transported to the county jail, he told corrections officers that he had used the restroom in his pants and needed to clean himself up, the report stated.

“While he was doing so, jailers noticed that he removed a yellow container from his rectum and tried to flush it down the toilet,” the report stated. “Meth was found inside the container after it failed to flush.”

Bridges then allegedly admitted that he had actually not gone to the bathroom on himself and that he only said it in hopes that they would allow him to use a private bathroom.
