ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office arrested an 18-year-old man on a felony illegal dumping charge on August 4 in connection to allegations that he dumped 1,380 pounds of trash on Dead Man Road off of U.S. Highway 69 back in July.
Shannon Aleric Franklin-Mixon, of Huntington, was booked in to the Angelina County Jail Friday on a state-jail felony illegal dumping charge. He was released a day later after he posted a bail amount of $10,000.
According to the arrest affidavit, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office detective for environmental control, was notified that someone had illegally dumped a load of trash at Angelina National Forest Access Road 343 on Dead Man Road. Detective Donald Carroll found a pile of trash strewn around the drainage ditch at that location.
Carroll took photos of the trash, and he found identifiers in the trash that led the ACSO detective to Franklin-Mixon and another man, the affidavit stated.
The trash consisted of metal, sheet rock, shingles, wood, and other debris, the affidavit stated. When the trash was weighed on scales at the Angelina County landfill, it had a total weight of 1,380 pounds.
The ACSO detective met with Franklin-Mixon at the sheriff's office for a non-custodial interview on July 26. Franklin-Mixon allegedly told the detective that he and another man emptied a trailer load of trash in to the drainage ditch on Dead Man Road.
