A Department of Public Safety trooper arrested three Lufkin residents on a variety of felony drug and firearm charges after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59 Saturday night.

A search of the suspects’ vehicle turned up crack cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, a scale, and a pistol, according to the affidavit.

Arlicia Vontreal McDaniel, 52, Christopher Cordell McDaniel, 30, and Robin Leshell McDaniel, 41, were all charged with three counts of first-degree manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between 4 and 200 pounds, state-jail felony possession of marijuana between 4 ounces and 5 pounds, and state-jail felony manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

Arlicia and Robin McDaniel were also charged with third-degree prohibited substance in a correction facility. Christopher McDaniel was also charged with Class A misdemeanor unlawfully carrying a weapon and Class A misdemeanor bail jumping/failure to appear.

Arlicia and Robin McDaniel’s collective bail amounts were set at $255,000 each. Christopher McDaniel’s collective bail amount was set at $242,500.

According to the arrest affidavit, a DPS trooper pulled the McDaniels’ vehicle over for a defective headlight at about 8:28 p.m. Saturday. When the trooper went to talk to Christopher McDaniel, the driver, he noticed marijuana and an open container of alcohol in the center console. Arlicia and Robin McDaniel were passengers in the vehicle.

Christopher McDaniel allegedly told the trooper that nothing illegal was in the car.

When the DPS trooper ran Christopher McDaniel’s driver’s license, he found that he had an outstanding warrant out of Nacogdoches County, and he asked the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

The trooper searched the car and found a plastic bag that contained marijuana in the center console, the affidavit stated. He also found a black scale and a metal grinder.

At that point, all three people in the car were read their Miranda warnings and taken into custody, the affidavit stated. A juvenile passenger in the car was released into a family member’s custody.

A search of the rear passenger area of the vehicle turned up a purple bag containing crack cocaine, and a large black bag that contained marijuana, a bottle containing white pills, baggies with a white substance, a razor blade with a white substance on it, and small blue bag containing ecstasy and change, the affidavit stated. In addition, a pistol was allegedly found under Christopher McDaniel’s seat.

An NCSO sergeant took Arlicia and Robin McDaniel to the county jail in his patrol unit, and the DPS trooper took Christopher McDaniel to the jail.

Once the three people were taken to the jail, corrections officers found baggies containing crack cocaine and marijuana under Arlicia McDaniel’s clothes, the affidavit stated. Robin McDaniel allegedly had baggies containing yellow pills and ecstasy under her clothes.
