Angelina College is now better equipped to meet the demands of its education majors.
In the fall, AC will start offering an associate of arts in teaching degree. The degree was once called interdisciplinary studies.
The AAT will focus on certification in three areas: fourth through eighth grade generalist certification, early childhood through fourth grade - bilingual certification, and early childhood through twelfth grade - special education certification.
AC's new degree program is part of the coordinating board's "Closing the Gaps" vision for higher education in Texas. The goal is to get 500,000 more Texas students in higher education by 2015.
