TENAHA, TX (KTRE) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has charged a Tenaha ISD teacher accused of sending nude photographs of herself to a student.

Cynthia Suzett Hughes, 49, of Tenaha, is charged with second-degree improper relationship.

According to a press release issued by the sheriff's office, an investigator was contacted on Aug. 4 by a parent of a student who attends the high school. The parent said she believed Hughes, who teaches at the high school, was communicating inappropriately with a student.

The investigator and TISD police then interviewed the student, who said he did receive nude photographs of Hughes. He also told them that one time during the summer, Hughes messaged the student and said all of her family members were away and she would like to spend some time together, according to the press release.

The officers report Hughes then admitted she sent the nude photos to the student.

Hughes turned herself in to the Shelby County Jail on Wednesday and has posted a $20,000 bond, according to the press release.

TISD Superintendent Scott Tyner said Hughes submitted her resignation on Monday.

"We here at TISD are devastated that something that has been a national epidemic has now hit so close to home," Tyner said in an email statement. "However, TISD is not defined by the shortfalls and choices of any one individual. Our tight knit, committed, and professional family remains united in its mission to establish, maintain, and build trust with each individual student. We must move on, and now we turn our attention to preparing to greet our student body for what is sure to be another great school year."
