City holding send-off for Lufkin Little League team

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The City of Lufkin will hold a send-off parade and ceremony for the Lufkin Little League team on Friday, a day before the players leave for the World Series.

Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Tara Watson-Watkins said the players and coaches will be loaded into fire trucks at 5:30 p.m. and they will be driven through downtown Lufkin from Jennings Station to the Convention Center. At the amphitheater there, they will recognize each player and Mayor Bob Brown will read a proclamation.

The Lufkin all-stars punched their ticket to Williamsport, Pa., after winning the Southwest Regional on Wednesday.

The team's first game in Williamsport will be on August 17 at 7 p.m. against the Great Lakes Region winner. That team will be known after their championship game on Saturday. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
