LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - As the school year begins, the Junior League of Lufkin is making final preparations for its annual Back to School Bonanza.
More than 80 volunteers stuffed 3,200 backpacks Thursday.
The Junior League of Lufkin along with organizations around the community stuffed the backpack full of supplies.
Organizer Becca Henderson said handing out backpacks helps set children up for success at the start of the school year.
"For parents, if we can take a little burden off of them to have to go to spend all that money at once, and they've got lots of other things to purchase to get their kids ready for school, we just try to relieve that stress and that load off of them," Henderson said.
The league will hand them out on Saturday at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center. They'll go to children from Angelina County schools ranging from kindergarten to high school.
