POLICE: Teen fell to his death while playing with air-soft rifles in abandoned building

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

John Butler, 16, passed away after falling from the 11th story of the Western United Life building in Midland on Saturday night.

Police say the investigation revealed that Butler and other teens were inside the building playing with air-soft rifles. While they were playing on the 11th floor, Butler fell through a large hole that extended through all floors to the ground. 

Police say Butler was dead by the time EMS and authorities arrived.

The building, located on 304 W. Texas Avenue, has been abandoned for at least a decade.

Police say the teens did not have permission to be in the building

Next of kin have been notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
